You Never Know This work was the result of a collaborative project set up by the Isleworth Festival and the spnm (Society for the Promotion of New Music) to enable choreographers and composers to work together in creating a new piece. 'Points of Rebellion' was the broad and open theme given by the organisers to the artists as a point of departure for their works. In this context I collaborated with the Spanish choreographer Rafael Bonachela who was a member of the Rambert Dance Company at that time. Most of my musical ideas were inspired by the movements and the energy I found while watching the choreographic drafts recorded on videotape. The sound materials were taken from a variety of unused processed or abstract sounds that I had gathered over previous years. Some of these sounds underwent further processing. The materials were structured as a single unfolding soundscape which basically starts with a rhythmic texture that progresses towards a more static or dreamlike atmosphere.
